Arcas Julian guitarist composer


1832-1882
He was born in María, Almería, and died in Antequera, Malaga.
The young Francisco Tárrega listened to him in 1863 in Castellón and played for him after the performance, on the request of Tárrega's father. Arcas then invited Tárrega to study with him in Barcelona.

Spanish guitarist and composer. He received lessons from his father who was a pupil of Dionisio Augado. Arcas acted as a school mediant between Augado and Tarrega being the teacher of the latter.
Arcas belonged to the first guitarists who in the classical  music started to use the apoyando technique which already was in use in flamenco music.

He made consert visits to Spain and Europe and performed for the royal family in Brighton England at 1862.

He lived in Barcelona since 1864. In 1870 he moved to Almeria, where hw eorked almost 10 years as a grain merchant. After this he again became interested in the concert career which ended in 1882 when he fell ill.
